The College recognises and values the role of sport and recreation and how it contributes to students' lifestyle, fitness, health, social development and self-esteem. It also acknowledges how this complements students' academic development.
All students are encouraged to participate in at least one of the many sports offered at St Brendan-Shaw College. Students have the right to participate safely and equitably but need to balance this with the responsibilities of sportsmanship, commitment and ensuring the safety of others.
Students are involved in various sports such as basketball, cricket, netball, football, hockey, rowing, soccer, softball, surf life-saving, swimming, mountain biking, surfing and tennis.
As well as participating in competitions with schools across all sectors in the local area and statewide, St Brendan-Shaw College is a member of SATIS (The Sports Association of Tasmanian Independent Schools) which conducts sporting competitions for member schools.
NSATIS (Northern Sports Association of Tasmanian Independent Schools) as it suggests is the Northern branch of the SATIS group. It includes Independent Schools from Launceston, Devonport and Burnie. The schools compete against each other in Northern Athletics and Swimming carnivals as well as Hockey, Netball, Soccer, Tennis and Basketball competitions. Winners of these rosters will compete against the winner of the Southern Schools branch of SATIS. While opportunities to compete in the sport rosters are normally limited to senior students, some sports require students to fulfil team obligations.
