Reflection Days - Learn more about our imporant Reflection Program

Reflection Day Program

The Reflection Day program supports the Catholic Education of our students and links directly with the Religious Education Curriculum.

Each year from Year 7 - 10, in their religious education classes, students go to a site off-campus for the entirety of the school day for their reflection day. At the beginning of Year 7 students purchase a Visual Art Diary which they use for a reflection day journal for each of their Reflection Days. This acts as a record and memento of their reflection days.

Reflection Days are an integral part of our Religious Education program. They not only provide the chance for our students to get to know each other better outside of the classroom environment, but they also give the students valuable life skills. Students are also given the opportunity to explore some of the following questions:

  • What do they consider to be important?
  • What has led them to the place where they are?
  • What will they have to do to get to where they want to?
  • What sort of person do they want to be?
  • What gifts do they have and how do they intend to use them?

Students are particularly encouraged to focus on the spiritual dimensions of their lives and what it means for them.

The Reflection Days are organised (and often facilitated) by the College's Coordinator of Ministry. Below is a very brief summary of the focus, facilitators and venues for the Reflection Days as they stand.

Year 7 Reflection Day
The Year 7 Reflection Days occur near the beginning of Term 2 and are held at the MacKillop Hill Spirituality Centre in Forth. The theme of the days is based around the famous verse of scripture from the Gospel of Matthew (5: 13-16) - You are the salt of the earth...You are the light of the world. These are facilitated by the College's Youth Ministry and Spirituality class and the Coordinator of Ministry.

Year 8 Reflection Day
The Year 8 Reflection Days occur in Term 1 and are held at the Ulverstone Surf Life Saving Club. The theme of the days is around the concept of stewardship particularly in relation to the broader Christian concept of creation. These are facilitated by senior members of the College's teaching staff.

Year 9 Reflection Day
The Year 9 Reflection Days occur in Term 3 and are held between the Devonport Surf Life Saving Club and the Ulverstone Rowing Club. The theme of the days is around values and morals. These are also facilitated by senior members of the College's teaching staff.

Year 10 Reflection Day
The Year 10 Reflection Days occur in Term 4 and are held at the Devonport Soccer Club. The theme of the days is around Social Justice. These days are currently facilitated by the Edmund Rice Tasmania Retreat Team led by Br Sean McManus.
