Principal's Message 14 April 2022 (Acting Principal, Kim Walters)

Covid-19
As we come to the end of Term, Catholic Education Tasmania would like to thank all of our parents and carers for their patience and assistance in regard to enabling our schools to comply with the Government's COVID-19 management requirements.

Analysis by Public Health of all school case data collected during Term 1 has shown that the rates of severe disease for students were extremely low.

For Term 2, again in consultation with the education sector, Public Health is proposing to move from an outbreak management model to a symptoms-based model. The proposal will mean that the focus for Term 2 will be on those persons who are symptomatic to stay away and get tested. Unless circumstances change, such as a rapid spike in case numbers, testing of asymptomatic students will not be required. Furthermore, emphasis will be renewed on personal COVID safe behaviours such as hygiene. If there is a particular need for care of a student vulnerable to severe illness should they become infected with COVID-19, please contact the College.

During the Term 1 school holidays, you are encouraged to follow Public Health advice, and should any member of your household display symptoms, please test and register if positive. School requirements regarding COVID-19 will not apply during the school holidays, so please visit the Public Health website or phone the Public Health hotline should you require assistance.

Easter
At Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Jesus. At Easter, we celebrate his 'rebirth' - his resurrection. Easter and spring coincide in the northern hemisphere, with rich imagery of life renewed that accompanies spring. Easter's message is one of hope, the promise of eternal life. This Easter, may you see beauty in the world around us and be filled with awe and wonder at all of creation. May we each be Christ to our fellow companions on life's journey.

Next Term
Mr Pisano will return to his role from the beginning of next term, having fully recovered from unavoidable back surgery.

Uniform
For Term 2, students in Years 7-10 will be permitted to wear their PE uniform to and/or from school on the day they have core P.E only (i.e., once per week).

For option subjects, which have smaller numbers of students requiring the changerooms, they will be required to change.

Senior students will need to change in/out of their P.E uniform.

Current College P.E Uniform

  • College polo top
  • Green College softshell jacket
  • Navy College shorts with logo
  • Navy College track pants with logo

Outdoor Ed Camp to Meander Falls

On the 30th and 31st of March, our Outdoor Ed class went camping at Meander falls. On the first day, along with Mr Ryan's Community Sport and Rec class, we all went for an 11km hike. When we got to the falls, some of us went swimming in the cold water. We spotted a couple of snakes (white-lip-whip snakes) and quite a few types of mushrooms. When we completed the walk, we headed back to the campsite where the Sport and Rec class departed back to school, and our outdoor ed class began to set up our tents. Then we went for a swim in the water near our campsite, which was super cold. Afterwards, we made our dinner in our groups. The two teachers assessed us in a competition (My Tranjia Rules); Mr Hubble, Mrs Baxter, and Felicity Purton were lucky enough to be the winners. After eating and cleaning up dinner, some groups presented their dessert to the teachers. Then the class played cards and spotlight to finish off the night. Then we went to bed. After a cold night, we made our breakfast the following day before packing up our tents and overnight bags. We then departed for river sledding on the bus. River sledding was a great first-time experience and an awesome way to finish the camp. Then we headed back to school on the bus. Overall the camp at Meander falls was a fun and enjoyable experience for the class.

Holy Thursday Liturgy

Today at 11:00 am, we held our Easter liturgy at SBSC. Once again, due to COVID restrictions, the SRC conducted the Liturgy as a live stream from the Chapel. The live was then broadcasted to the Students in their Homerooms. Below are some pictures of the event.

Ukraine Fundraiser

During this Term, we have been collecting donations for the Caritas Ukraine Appeal to help the women and children suffering from the war in Ukraine. The total below is from homeroom donations and a casual clothes day where students dressed in the Ukrainian flag colours. The total donations exceeded $1290.00. Thanks to the Vinnies group and our SRC for organizing the fundraising and our lovely staff and students' for their generous support.
