Wearing a uniform creates a sense of belonging; contributes to school unity and pride; removes competitive dressing, and ensures students are wearing clothing that is appropriate for their learning experience.
St Brendan-Shaw College asks students to wear the uniform well, especially when travelling to and from school and during College functions. Students must wear the summer uniform in Terms 1 and 4 and the winter uniform in Terms 2 and 3. Being out of uniform should be a rare occurrence, and parents are asked to support us in this regard. If being out of uniform is unavoidable, an explanatory note must be provided. From September to April (when UV levels in Tasmania are usually 3 and above), sun protection (including wearing a hat and sunscreen) is encouraged.
No person should feel inferior or superior to another, regardless of background. The uniform gives a sense of belonging to a group that is held in high regard. It is a constant reminder of our responsibility to respect the rights of others and not become self-focused.
The changeover to summer uniform occurs at the beginning of Term 4. Now is a great time to check summer uniform garments for fit and condition.
