Wearing a uniform brings a sense of belonging; contributes to school unity and pride; removes competitive dressing; and ensures students are wearing clothing that is appropriate for their learning experience.

St Brendan-Shaw College asks students to wear the uniform well, especially when travelling to and from school, and at College functions. Students are expected to be in summer uniform in Terms 1 and 4 and in winter uniform in Terms 2 and 3.

Being out of uniform should be a rare occurrence and parents are asked to support us in this regard. If being out of uniform is unavoidable, an explanatory note must be provided.

From September to April (when UV levels in Tasmania are usually 3 and above), sun protection (including wearing a hat and putting on sunscreen) is encouraged.

No person should be made to feel inferior or superior to another, regardless of background. The uniform gives a sense of belonging to a group that is held in high regard. It is a constant reminder of our individual responsibility to respect the rights of others and not become self-focused.
