Principal's Message 9 December 2022

This will be the final Newsletter for 2022.

Term one next year begins on Friday, 3 February, for Year 7, 11, and 12 students, with Year 8, 9, and 10 students commencing on Monday, 6 February.

Our Business Manager, Ms Debbie Clarke, will leave us in early January to take up a new position interstate.  She has been attracted away by the opportunity to work in a developing school in the Ballina region of New South Wales.  In her seven years with us, Debbie has overseen a significant change in the various systems we use at the College.  The introduction of new School Management System software was a major undertaking.  Her commitment to improving our practices, especially where they serve the learning and safety of students, is second to none. She has high regard for good Governance practices, which are essential to ensuring our accountability.  Her skills will be greatly missed; however, she has left us with highly efficient and well-functioning processes.  We thank her for her commitment and loyalty to the College and wish her every success in her new challenge.

This is also my last Newsletter post.  I take this opportunity to share that it has been a great privilege to serve the College's incredible staff, the parents, and our amazing students.  I am humbled by the messages I have received.  In my service, I have tried to live out our vision.  There are times I got it 'right', and for this, I thank the School Leadership Team, whose advice has been instrumental in these successes.  For parents, I have tried to live up to the expectations that you have had of me and to be authentic in my interactions.

However, I am most grateful for the hundreds of students I have been blessed to work with over the many years I have been at the College.  They are a credit to their parents and teachers alike.  Our Alumni are filled with exceptional people who are positive role models, leading by the quality of their character as much as by their expertise in their fields of endeavour.  They will forever hold a special place in my heart.

So for the last time ... stay safe, keep happy, and I will keep you in my prayers.

Thank you, and fare well.

Arts Evening

Our College Arts Evening this Thursday went off with a bang. We saw many impressive live student performances and artwork on display our students have worked tirelessly to create. We appreciate everyone's support who attended the event and are already looking forward to next year's celebration.

Lucy Aherne Basketball Success

Congratulations to emerging pathway athlete Lucy Aherne, who has been selected for the National Performance Camp at the Centre of Excellence in Canberra for 2023!

Year 10 Final Week

2022 has come to a close for our Year 10 Students. The week was full of activities; from fishing to bowling, there was something for everyone. Students wrapped up their final day with a trip to Penguin for a picnic at Preservation Bay and collecting their Yearbook full of a year of wonderful memories.

Careers Day

On Monday, Year 10 students participated in our College Careers Day. Students attended sessions held by past students, industry representatives, UTAS mobile classroom, MyCareers and were given the opportunity to complete their Responsible Service of Alcohol.

A massive thank you to all those who attended and made the day a success.

Navy Emerging Technicians Award

Back in July, Ms Walters and three students travelled to HMAS Cerberus as part of the Navy Emerging Technicians Award. The other part of our award arrived today - a robotics kit to be used by those future technicians valued at over $200. This will be a fantastic addition to our science equipment, especially to encourage any future technicians.
