Principal's Message 18 March 2021

Tomorrow we will be holding our formal Commissioning Ceremony.  This allows us to acknowledge the Year 12 class of 2021 (who will receive their Year 12 badge), as well as all students who have been elected as Leaders at the College.  It has been a bonus that the Ceremony coincides with a school visit by the Executive Director of Catholic Education Tasmania, Dr Gerard Gaskin.  Dr Gaskin will be our guest of honour and will give an address in place of one from the Principal.  Our College Captains, Anthony Burbury and Emily Swanson will also give their first, formal addresses.

Last weekend, Anthony and Emily were joined by College Vice-Captain, Jack Menzies, and Mackillop House Vice Captain, Trista Aylett, at JJAM, a Student Leadership camp run by the Sisters of St Joseph.  Due to Travel uncertainties, the camp was held in Hobart this year.  SRC Coordinator Leah Sussman and Griffin House Coordinator Alexandra Doherty accompanied the leaders and were effusive in their pride in our students.

Over the summer we updated the College's fire detection systems.  It has only just become fully operable, and we conducted our first drill with the system last week.  However, we have discovered that the sensors are too sensitive and the alarms have forced three additional, unplanned evacuations.  We have the technicians back onsite as I write rectifying the problem.

We have decided to withdraw from the SATIS Interschool Swimming Carnival.  The venue has not made the changerooms/toilets/showers available to the competing schools and we do not feel that the alternative arrangments are suitable for our students who have to travel down and back as well as compete.  We have emailed those concerned seeking their input, but one of the alternative arrangments that we were considering was not able to be accommodated, hence the decision to withdraw.

Stay safe and keep happy.

Year 7 & 8 Students - Religious Education backordered books

Unfortunately our book supplier Campion Education has just been advised of a delay from one of their suppliers due to books going missing in shipment to Australia and having to be reordered. Year 7 and Year 8 students will be affected by this delay.

The Yr 7 item has been reordered and is due into Campion Education mid-April and then forwarded to students.  We have requested a cancellation of the Year 8 item.  Campion Education will be organising refunds for these students in the next few days to the card where the order was placed.  Sorry for this inconvenience.
