Principal's Message 20 October 2022

Our Year 11 & 12 students have begun their last two weeks of classes, with the last day of formal classes being next Thursday, 27 October - one week earlier than usual. That night is the final formal assembly for the graduating class of 2022 and their parents, followed by their final assembly the following morning when the rest of the school has the opportunity to farewell the Year 12s. The following week is Swot Vac, with Exams due to commence on Tuesday, 8 November, the day after the Northern Recreation Day Public Holiday.

The Year 12s have negotiated a week to celebrate their final classes in a way that respects our cleaning staff. I commend their generosity of spirit. They have set up a series of themed dress days for each day, Monday through Thursday next week, while they undertake their regular classes. Friday will begin with their formal rites of passage, culminating with fun following this.

There have been reports in the media about the number of Tasmanian students who are not achieving above the National NAPLAN Benchmarks. Our Deputy Principal: Teaching and Learning, Gavin Hicks, has prepared this summary that I am proud to share with you.

We congratulate all students on achieving their best results, and I acknowledge the professional work of their teachers, the Teaching and Learning Leaders, and Mr Hicks for this excellent outcome.

This week each Year 7 class has spent a double period with guest presenters from Youth Family and Community Connections to educate them on the pitfalls of sexting. The Workshop covered the following:

what is sexting

what is classed as sexually explicit

why people sext

social media and sexting

sexting and the law

Theatre Skills

We are very excited to announce the launch of regular Theatre Skills (primary school) and Acting Industry Training (high school) workshops at Haus Creative.

These classes will be held each term.

Our classes will be hosted by Alexandra Rose, a local actor, musician and model who you and your children may have seen in local productions of The Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins or even on local TV commercials! Alex is truly gifted at bringing out the best in children and helping them learn how to express themselves through multiple art forms.

We are offering these classes for $160 per person, per term which includes not only theatre skills but industry information and a headshot to use for auditions.
