Principal's Message 27 October 2022

I am pleased to share that Stuart Ralph has been appointed Principal of St Brendan-Shaw Catholic College from the beginning of 2023.  Stuart is currently Deputy Principal - Leadership and Wellbeing for St Patrick’s Catholic College, Launceston and is a dedicated, passionate and energised educator with a depth of experience within Catholic Education Tasmania including:

  • Deputy Principal - Administration and Head of Croagh Patrick at St Patrick’s College (2017-2021)
  • Director of Pastoral Care: St Patrick’s College, Prospect (2010-2015)
  • Coordinator of Sport: St Patrick’s College, Prospect (2008-2009).

He has also acted as Deputy Principal: Pastoral Care and Head of Middle School.  Stuart’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Human Movement (University of Tasmania), a Certificate of Religious Education, and Masters of Educational Leadership (Australian Catholic University).

Stuart’s knowledge, passion and expertise in teaching and leadership roles will be most valuable in undertaking his new appointment at St Brendan-Shaw College.  The appointment of such an outstanding candidate is an excellent outcome for the College, and I know that you will join me in congratulating Stuart and making him welcome.

Today was the last day of classes for the bulk of Year 11 and 12 students, although individual teachers will have made arrangements with their classes during Swot Vac.  This is especially the case for students preparing to sit TASC External Exams.

The Year 12s have shown the quality of their character by the way they have chosen to celebrate this final formal week.  They have emphasised joy and have set themes for fancy dress each day:  Minion Monday, Country Club Tuesday, Wear it Pink Wednesday, and Country Thursday.  Thursday also saw them surprise me with a lunchtime bush dance (something I always thought would be a fun replacement for socials but never got across the line).  They are a wonderful group, and I pray they remain safe and happy. May God bless them and keep them in the palm of God's hand.

Year 12's Costume Week

Our Year 12 students celebrated their final week at the College dressing up. We saw Minions on Monday. Country Club-inspired outfits on Tuesday, the Movie Mean Girls motivated Wednesday's theme of "On Wednesday's we wear pink," and Thursday was Country/Cowgirls/boys encouraged by Mr Pisano's hopes for a Courtyard bush dance - which the students executed wonderfully!

Year 12 Family Assembly

On Thursday evening, our Year 12 cohort gathered in the Nazareth Gym along with their friends and family to celebrate their final year as St Brendan-Shaw College students. The evening was lovely and one of the few times the class of 2022 will gather together before becoming College Alumni.

Theatre Skills

We are very excited to announce the launch of regular Theatre Skills (primary school) and Acting Industry Training (high school) workshops at Haus Creative.

These classes will be held each term.

Our classes will be hosted by Alexandra Rose, a local actor, musician and model who you and your children may have seen in local productions of The Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins or even on local TV commercials! Alex is truly gifted at bringing out the best in children and helping them learn how to express themselves through multiple art forms.

We are offering these classes for $160 per person, per term which includes not only theatre skills but industry information and a headshot to use for auditions.
